Surf team rider, Leah Oke, sent an update about her recent adventures. Read it down below and enjoy the pictures and video!
So my Hawaiian adventure was amazing but unfortunately has come to an end. It's one place I've always dreamed of going for its amazing waves and beauty, and it definitely didn't disappoint. Upon departing the plane in Maui, my senses were immediately pleasantly surprised by the extremely sweet smell of flowers and warm humid temperature. Unfortunately in our 10 day stay the ocean decided to go pretty much completely flat. I got a few sessions in on the North Shore that were definitely not the best conditions (not once getting over shoulder high) but it was awesome to just be in the warm water.
Next, we flew over to the big island of Hawaii where we stayed in Kona for a few days, surfed Banyans and a couple other local spots. The ocean continued to pretty much sleep though and there was still no size in the waves. So we ventured around the island and checked cute little towns and a live Volcano!
The next leg of our trip took us to Kauai where we surfed on the Southeast side for the first few days. The waves were small but super fun. I surfed mostly with longboarders and paddle boarders, although there were a few shortboarders (even the pros from the North Shore were coming to surf the tiny waves it was all we had!) We spotted a swell on its way to the Northshore so we whisked over there to my friend Jennys (previous owner of Surf Sister in Tofino) had a few fun days.
