NOAH COHEN TAKES HOME THE 5th RIP CURL STEW PRESENTED BY & MONSTER ENERGY
Raph Bruhwiler takes 2ND, Sepp Bruhwiler takes 3rd
TOFINO, BRITISH COLUMBIA (June 11, 2011) — It was anyone’s guess who would be crowned the winner, but in the end Tofino up-and-comer Noah Cohen took home first place in the men’s pro division at the fifth annual Rip Curl Stew presented by Monster Energy. Second place went to Raph Bruhwiler, and third went to Sepp Bruhwiler, both of Tofino.
Cohen took home the $5,000 grand prize and will have his named added to the Rip Curl Stew trophy, beside last year’s winner Peter Devries (who didn’t compete this year due to an injury). Cohen also took home the day’s Best Wave award, presented by Sanük.
In the Masters category (surfers 35+), Greg Urata took home first, while Jens Kalwa took second, and Catherine Bruhwiler-Temple took third, the first time a female surfer has ever placed in this category at the Rip Curl Stew.
Despite that the waves were small and the wind picked up throughout the day, providing less than optimal conditions for surfing, the competition nonetheless drew hundreds to Cox Bay to watch Canada’s top surfers and up-and-comers compete, to lounge in the sun, and to score free swag from the many event sponsors. Surfrider Foundation proved an event favourite, with $1 hamburgers.

Stephanie Wightman 2nd, Tamarah Stephens 3rd
TOFINO, BRITISH COLUMBIA (June 12, 2011) – The weather was chilly but the rain held off for the second day of the Rip Curl Stew presented by Monster Energy. When the day began, the waves in front of Long Beach Lodge even looked a bit better than day one’s powerless, waist-high offerings.
It was with consistent rides and trademark turns thatPort Renfrew’s Leah Oke surfed easily into first place in the Women’s Pro division of the fifth annual Rip Curl Stew. Second place went to Stephanie Wightman, and third to Tamarah Stephens, with Catherine Bruhwiler-Temple taking fourth.
Oke, who also won the 2010 Stew Women’s Pro title, takes home the $1,500 grand prize as well as a coveted Stew “ladle,” carved from reclaimed old growth rainforest wood.
