Noah's Bark

It's time for 'Noah's Bark' round two! We've asked one of our surf team memebers, Noah Cohen, to send us regular updates on what's going on his world. Here are some of this latest thoughts. Insightful little guy.

"Well, after the month that I have had, it would seem that picking a subject to "bark" about would be rather difficult. Between the excellent weekend I had at the Ripcurl Stew, being in Vancouver not only during the riot, but inside Roger's Arena itself for game seven, and, most recently, flipping a boat while fully clothed at the mouth of the Ucluelet harbour with Rycam at the helm, its been a fairly exciting month. Not to mention all the fun that isn't quite appropriate for this little column. But, rather than focusing on one single happening, I'm just going to talk about ups and downs, and that no matter how hard you try, you will never be able to foresee what is going to happen tomorrow, or anytime in the future, for that matter.

Lets rewind to the week prior to the Ripcurl Stew. It was a gorgeous sunny day, and, as many of us like to do on days as such, I spent it in the sun getting "day drunk". Later on that evening, i was attempting to execute the common practice for myself of peeing and texting, but my "evening drunk" hands faltered, and let my phone slip into what was to be its yellow-tinged watery grave. Puck. Five days later, an errantly thrown baseball led to a broken window and left my weekly total of money-not-well-spent at a deflating $1000 dollars. Double Puck!  The window occurred two days before the contest, and, being the consummate professional I am (Yeah right) and having nothing but the surf event weighing on my mind, it immediately popped into my brain that all this bad luck (Or poor life skills, whichever you want to call it) must be a sign of things to come. It may not quite be scientifically proven, but I'm sure bad luck can't last forever. The same way that little spinning ball thing in Vegas can't land on black all night. What goes up must come down, except maybe the price of gold. So with the risk of sounding ridiculously big headed, the moment that window broke, I won the contest. I'm not one to get all ebrotional (Yes, that was "b" was intentional) about shit like this, but for some reason that time I just knew it. And the point I'm trying to get across with this long winded ramble about how great I am is this: you never ever ever know what is going to happen to you when you wake up in the morning. Never. So no matter how great or terrible of a day you have had, everything can be completely reciprocated in the blink of an eye.

And I think thats why we all keep on doing what we are doing. Many people aren't exactly living out their dreams, but they keep going just because. And I like to think that this is the case because around the next bend in the road could be the single greatest thing that has ever happened to you."
