The extended Sitka family of Sustainable Coastlines have just completed another sterling coastal cleanup and educational trip stretching from Hicks Bay through to legendary surf spot Mahia on New Zealand's North Island.
From the 8th of August through to the 25th, the crew will engage with local communities and schools spreading their knowledge of plastic waste and beach/coastal cleanliness and the importance of this on our environment.
Last years journey on the East Coast netted over 12 TONNES of rubbish in one day. This years numbers will be a great measure on what has changed over the last 12 months in the area.
“We are teaching children the importance of protecting our coastlines and providing them with a fun solution. By becoming kaitiaki (guardians), they can take ownership of their coastline, protect this resource for future generations and take pride in the process,” says Event Manager Mitzi Borren.
