The Surfrider Foundation Vancouver Chapter would like to invite you to participate in the sixth annual International Surfing Day (ISD). This global celebration of the sport of surfing is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 20th. SURFING Magazine will be working with the Surfrider Foundation to use this day to also help raise awareness of beach and coastal environmental issues.
This year we will be celebrating International Surfing Day at Jericho Beach in conjunction with MEC’s Paddlefest. Paddlefest is an urban celebration of kayaking, canoeing and the ocean environment in British Columbia. This year Paddlefest will bring together various vendors, manufacturers, non-profits and other groups to celebrate our oceans and the act of paddling.
The Surfrider Foundation Vancouver Chapter will be onsite with various activities for the kids including a plastic scavenger hunt and beach cleanup. We will also be organizing a paddle out to bring the paddling community together and raise awareness about the issues facing our oceans, waves and beaches.
Finally, there will be an afterparty at Sitka Surfboards from 7:00-10:00pm, where they will be screening the 1972 surf cult classic Morning of the Earth by Australian director Albert Falzon. For more information on the film go to http://www.morningoftheearth.net/.
